WP Restore overview (requirements)
WP Restore brings a site back from a MigraSync backup — on the same URL (disaster recovery) or a different URL (clone / host move). It is included with Essential and Pro backup plans.
Requirements checklist
| Requirement | Why |
| Essential or Pro backup plan (active) | WP Restore is a backup-plan feature |
| API key connected | Syncs backup inventory from your account |
| Completed cloud backup(s) | Restore needs a finished backup point |
| Master Vault Key | Must match the key used when the backup was encrypted |
| MigraSync Plugin on target site | Restore runs in MigraSync → WP Restore |
Free migration-only accounts need a backup trial or subscription before restore unlocks.
Same URL vs different URL
- Restore to same URL — recover this exact WordPress install after breakage or bad changes.
- Restore to another URL — clone to staging, a new host, or a new domain. MigraSync rewrites site URLs in the database automatically.
Detailed walkthroughs:
What WP Restore replaces
Restore overwrites selected scope on the target site:
- Database (required) — posts, pages, settings, users
- Optional: Media, Plugins, Themes sidecars
The final step asks you to confirm — “This cannot be undone.” Take a fresh manual backup first if the current site has data you might need.
If restore is blocked
- Plan upgrade required — add Essential/Pro at Pricing, then re-sync the API key.
- Subscription expired — renew backup subscription; grace period may allow restore but block new backups.
- No backups listed — run a cloud backup on the source site and click Refresh list in the wizard.
